A disc injury—whether it’s a herniation, bulge, or sequestration—is one of the more serious back injuries you can experience. And how it heals matters. It's so important to heal optimally from this type of injury so as not to develop chronic back problems.
That’s why getting the right care early is critical.
Chiropractic plays an essential role in optimizing outcomes with disc injuries. A good chiropractic physician is like a “bloodhound” for these cases. I can almost feel when a disc is involved in a patient’s low back pain presentation.
And that distinction matters—because it completely changes how we treat you.
When a disc is involved, we don’t rely on traditional side-posture manual adjustments. Instead, we focus on restoring pelvic symmetry and proper sacral alignment using precise drop-piece techniques.
Why? Because your foundation matters.
When your biomechanics are balanced, the spine and lower discs can settle properly onto the sacrum, with the joints aligned the way they’re designed to be. This reduces stress, improves function, and creates the ideal environment for healing.
When that balance is off, healing stalls—and chronic problems take hold.
From there, we incorporate spinal decompression therapy. This is a computer-controlled treatment designed to gently create space in the spine, helping draw herniated material back into place. It restores disc height, improves spacing, and supports the body’s natural healing process.
The good news? Most disc injuries can resorb over time when function is restored properly—leading to real resolution and a much lower chance of recurrence.
Our approach is always conservative and results-driven.
When needed, we use MRI imaging to confirm the diagnosis. If medications or injections become appropriate, we help coordinate that care. And in rare cases, when progress isn’t where we want it to be, we facilitate neurosurgical consultation.
But that’s the exception—not the rule. A disc herniation is not usually something you need to consult with the surgeon on.
Most patients respond extremely well to the care we provide right here in-house.
At Align Rehab, we are outcome-based. That means we don’t guess—we observe how your body responds and adjust care accordingly.
I often say 95% of solving a problem is knowing exactly what the problem is. That starts with an accurate diagnosis—and it’s the foundation of everything we do.
Whether your issue is joint-related, muscular, or disc-driven, we tailor care specifically to you—so you can heal the right way, the first time.
If something feels off—whether it’s from an accident, an injury, or you just woke up wrong—don’t wait.
Let’s get after it early and get you past it.
And if you know someone struggling with back pain, send them our way. Helping people move, feel, and live better is what we do.
Make your day great.
